The San Diego Comic Con might be in full swing, but Manchester is all set to be invaded this weekend. Daleks, Stormtroopers and Klingons will all be descending on Manchester Central for the annual MCM Expo. One of the biggest sci-fi and anime events in the north, it yet again returns with a mix of guests, video game preview, comic book creators and cosplay madness.

Indeed, the event has already been so successful in pre-registration that next year’s event will take place over two days!

The famous Robots Live show will also return bringing all the fun inspired by Robot Wars to Manchester. Pop over and see a unique robot combat entertainment experience! Pick up a bargain at one of the many dealer’s stalls on site or drop in on a panel with special guests including Warrick Davis (Life’s Too Short, Doctor Who, Star Wars), Kai Owen (Torchwood), Tom Hopper, Rupert Young and Eoin Macken (Merlin).

Over in the comic zone, numerous Manchester based artists will be promoting their wares including Dumpy Little Robot, Great Beast (Adam Cadwell (The Everyday, Blood Blokes) and Marc Ellerby (Chloe Noonan, Ellerbisms)), Andrew Tunney, M D Penman and many many more.

Nintendo are also bringing lots of brand spanking new titles to play with them including Luigi’s Mansion 2, Mario and Luigi Dream: Team Bros, and in UK firsts The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD (Wii U) and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (3DS). There’s also a chance to top the Mario Kart 7 leaderboards in multiplayer fun!

Of course, no comic con would be complete without the cosplay parade. Characters far and wide will be appearing courtesy of you! You’re encouraged to dress up and come along as your favourite character. No doubt there will be lots of bow-ties, fezzes, lightsabers and stakes, but we’re hoping to see a few more obscure characters taking part as well!

Forbidden Planet over on Oldham Street are also taking part in the fun with 20% off a range of merchandise including Star Wars, Wolverine and X-Men graphic novels and all clothing!

Want the sci-fi fun to continue into Sunday? Pop along to The Lass O’Gowrie from 2pm where the Fiction Stroker himself will be talking to Louise Jameson (Doctor Who’s Leela) about her career including an audience Q&A and autograph session.

MCM Expo Manchester is open tomorrow 11am – 6pm. Get there early as queues are likely to be massive! Get ahead of the curve and download the show guide here.
